Addlestone Update - College of Charleston Libraries

Just to keep you up to date, here’s what’s happening at  Addlestone

Every morning at 7 am a semi tractor trailer arrives from Wisconsin, filled with shelving. Each truck is unloaded in a few hours and the carriages moved into place. The installation crews assemble the bases and install the uprights. The crew is on track to complete construction on  the second floor by Aug 1 and the third floor public areas by Aug. 11.  Then the movers put all the books back on the shelves – in order and all the furniture in place.

Another crew has begun building the display walls near the flex room and the conference room in Special Collections. The flex room installation begins July 7 and the woodworkers are working off site to build the exhibit cases and bookcases for Special Collections.

We’re expecting the movers back on Aug 4 and taking 2 weeks to put books and journals back on the shelves. 100 chairs have been delivered and we’re expecting 100 more chairs, tables for the flex room and tables for the students to arrive just before school starts.

The electricians continue to pull conduit and will be working July 4!

And last, but certainly not least, another construction crew is busily converting Java City cafe into Starbucks and expect to be open for the beginning of the fall semester.

Wishing you all a wonderful 4th
