Banned Books Week, September 21-27!

Banned Books Week at College of Charleston starts today! Check out our events all week.


  • Stop by Addlestone Library to view our exhibits and take a picture at our photo booth.  The booth will be staffed one hour per day (Mon. 12pm – 1pm; Tues. 2pm – 3pm; Wed. 3pm to 4pm; Thurs. 1pm -2pm; Friday 10am-11am). You can also take a selfie and submit it to our tumblr or tag it with #BannedBooksCofC
  • The Charleston Read-Out will be held at the Halsey Institute of Contemporary Art on Monday, September 22nd at 6pm. Writers and artists will be reading from their favorite banned books. Presenters to include: Marcus Amaker, Herb Frazier, Sharon Graci, Bret Lott, Theodore Rosengarten, Joy Vandervort-Cobb, Marjory Wentworth, and Katherine Williams.
  • The Banned Books DIY Fair will be held on Thursday, September 25th from 11am to 3pm on Rivers Green behind the library. Celebrate your freedom of expression with live screen-printing, button-making, zine-making, and letter writing. All activities are free, and you can also enter a drawing for free prizes!

Addlestone Library is accessible only to College of Charleston students, alumni, faculty, and staff, Friends of the Library, PASCAL visiting patrons, or those with appointments for services offered in the library.
