Systems Librarian
With the Assistant Dean for Technical Services, the Systems Librarian is responsible for the operation, use and continued development of the library’s integrated library system software and access to the Library’s electronic resources including the library’s web pages. Working with other library staff this librarian ensures that the integrated library system provides coherent access to external electronic and in-house resources including locally developed scholarly digital resources.
The librarian is also responsible for researching, evaluating, recommending and implementing new library technologies which improve student and faculty access to scholarly information. The librarian will take a leadership role in the formulation of policies related to access to electronic information.
The Systems Librarian serves as the library’s Webmaster and with the Library Web Committee is responsible for all aspects of the Library’s web presence. The Systems Librarian reports to the Assistant Dean for Technical Services.
Responsibilities and Duties:
Manage Access to Electronic Resources
- Serves as the library’s webmaster and chair’s the library’s Web Committee; has responsibility for all aspects of the library’s web presence including OPAC design, web page content, etc.
- With the assistance of the Assistant Dean for Technical Services manages the library’s Innovative Interfaces integrated library software
- Manages the library’s open-url resolver to provide access to over 40,000 electronic journals
- With technical services staff implements and manages library’s electronic resource management software
- Assists in managing remote access to electronic resources through the library’s proxy server; troubleshoots access problems for the library’s electronic collections
- Manages the library’s federated search software
Training
- Trains library staff and students in the use of emerging library technologies and desktop applications
- Researches, evaluates and recommends new library technologies and desktop applications
Public Services
- Serves as information technology liaison to the Reference Department; assists in the development of online tutorials and web-based training etc.
Other
- Serves on faculty committees and as collection development liaison to academic departments
Requirements:
- ALA-accredited Master of Library Science
- Demonstrated understanding of library technology and the electronic resources environment
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team and to manage time and projects in a dynamic environment;
- Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills
- Experience in the application of new technologies;
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Preferred:
- Experience working with technical management of electronic resources and technologies used to provide access to electronic resources;
- Experience with Innovative Interfaces library system software in an academic library;
- Familiarity with HTML, XHTML, CSS, JavaScript, PHP
- Three years of professional experience
Salary:
Minimum starting salary: $42,000

Benefits:
The position is full time, tenure track, eleven-month appointment.
