Library Policy #6: Leave Policy0.0 CONTENTS
1.0 PurposeThis policy outlines the general rules governing leave (annual, sick, leave without pay, holidays, and other) available to all permanent, full-time employees of the Addlestone Library, the Communications Museum and the Marine Resources Library. All policies listed in this library are subject to College rules and regulations such as those stated in the College of Charleston Personnel Manual, the Faculty Handbook and the State Code. There is a separate policy for sabbatical leave. 2.0 Annual Leave
3.0 Sick Leave3.1 Sick leave is used to cover periods of personal illness or injury or appointments for medical or dental treatment when such appointments cannot reasonably be scheduled during non-work hours. 3.2 Employees who are absent due to illness may be required at the option of the Dean of Libraries to furnish doctor's certificate concerning the illness. 3.3 Sick leave may be used for absence due to pregnancy and childbirth. 3.4 No sick leave allowance is earned while an employee is on leave without pay. 4.0 Holidays4.1 All full-time permanent employees of the library shall be allowed to observe with pay the state holidays designated annually by the President. (See also Library Policy #3, Holiday Work). 4.2 When the scheduled holiday falls on a regularly assigned day off, an employee shall receive equal compensatory time. 5.0 Leave Without Pay5.1 A request for leave without pay is made to the President of the College. 5.2 A request for leave without pay is forwarded to the immediate supervisor, the Assistant Dean (if appropriate), and the Dean of Libraries for review prior to submitting the request to the President. 6.0 Professional Leave6.1 Release time is leave with pay for off campus professional activities. 6.2 All employees are required to complete the Departmental Leave Request Form for release time. Release time for more than four (4) hours is recommended by the immediate supervisor and approved by the Dean of Libraries. 7.0 Other LeaveThe appropriate state and college regulations governing military duty, jury duty, death in the family and emergency leave remain in effect. 8.0 Leave Records8.1 All employees are required to complete the Departmental Leave Request Approval Form for all types of leave. 8.2 Sick leave, leave without pay, and annual leave (classified staff only) should also be recorded on time sheets. 8.3 The leave form is the authorization for annual leave and should be signed and dated prior to taking annual leave (see 2.3). 8.4. Completed leave forms should be sent to the library secretary twice a month with time sheets. 8.5 The library secretary is responsible for maintaining these records. Sponsored: Sheila Seaman |
