Collection Development Manual0.0 CONTENTS
1.0 PurposeThis policy outlines the steps to be followed for developing and maintaining departmental procedures manuals including training manuals. 2.0 ScopeThe Libraries require procedures manuals for the following areas: the Learning Resources Center, the Marine Resources Libraries, the Special Collections Department, the Circulation Department, the Reference Department, the Cataloging Department, and the Collection Development Department. In addition, the Libraries maintain written procedures for standing committees as needed. 3.0 Style/FormatThe style and format of the manuals vary according to function. However, manuals should include copies of appropriate forms. Manuals should refer to position and not include the naves of people. Every effort should be made to maintain the text of the manuals on the campus-wide word processing system. 4.0 ReviewIn Public and Technical Services, it is the responsibility of the Assistant Directors to review and approve procedures (initialed and dated), developed by the department heads. In the Learning Resources Center and the Marine Resources Center, this is the Director of Libraries responsibility. Procedures are not "accepted" until this stage is complete. 5.0 LocationDepartmental procedure manuals are located in each department in an area readily accessible to all. The Library Secretary maintains a second copy of each manual. Once the procedure has been approved, it is the responsibility of the department head to send an updated copy to the library secretary.
